The Arsenal Stadium Mystery 3½ Stars

Engaging 1939 Brittish murder mystery centred around the death of an amateur footballer during a friendly match against Arsenal.

Blood and Chocolate 1 Star
Unholy mess of a film based on a variation of werewolf folklore.

Jennifer’s Body 3 Stars
Effective horror film with a smattering of black comedy from the writer Diablo Cody.

Pierrepoint 3¾ Stars
The story of the British hangman Albert Pierrepoint, who presided over anything from 450 to 608 executions between 1932 and 1956, with an excellent performance by Timothy Spall in the lead role.

True Blood (season one) 3¾ Stars
First season of the hit HBO show. Tennessee Williams with vampires.

Venom 2¼ Stars
Mediocre but still quite enjoyable horror film from Jim Gillespie, the director of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’.
